Are you a fan of egg rolls? I absolutely love them and recently decided to experiment with a new, tasty twist. I made Philly cheesesteak egg rolls, and they were a big hit with my family. They’re perfect for any game day celebration or an autumn evening gathering. Imagine enjoying them around a bonfire with marshmallows in the crisp fall air. These egg rolls are quick to prepare, and the filling can be made in advance.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 chopped yellow onion
- 1/2 chopped green bell pepper
- 24 egg roll wrappers
- 12 slices of American cheese
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil for frying
Instructions to Make Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls:
- In a medium-heated skillet, cook the beef until browned (about 5-7 minutes). Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, mix gently, then remove from the pan.
- Melt butter in the skillet, then cook the onion and bell pepper until browned (5-7 minutes). Reintroduce the beef mixture to the skillet and mix.
- On a flat surface, lay out the egg roll wrappers. Place half a slice of cheese on each, topped with 3 tablespoons of filling. Fold the bottom left corner over the filling, then the sides, moistening the edges with water; roll tightly.
- Heat 1 inch of oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Fry 3-4 egg rolls at a time until browned (3-4 minutes), then repeat with the rest.
Tips for the Best Philly Egg Rolls:
- Steak Options: Use rib eye, flank steak, or even ground hamburger. Cut the steak into small pieces for ease of eating and filling.
- Cheese Varieties: Experiment with provolone, Swiss, or pepper jack cheese instead of American cheese.
- Veggies: Add more color by using red, yellow, or orange bell peppers, or red onions. Chop them into small pieces for convenience.
- Wrapping Tips: Follow the directions on the egg roll wrapper package and use water to seal the edges well.
