1. Prepare the Dough
In a mixing bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the milk and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
Add flour, salt, and softened butter to the yeast mixture. Knead until you have a smooth and elastic dough (around 10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes in a mixer).
Grease the bowl with a little oil, place the dough in the bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Divide and Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.
Flatten each dough ball with your hands, and place a small amount of softened butter in the center of each piece. Fold and shape them back into balls.
Layer and Flatten
Stack the dough pieces on top of each other to form layers. Gently press down to flatten.
Using a rolling pin, roll the stacked dough into a large circle, about 1/4 inch thick.
4. Cook the Bread
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Place the rolled dough onto the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
As each piece cooks, gently press it with a spatula to help it cook evenly.
5. Serve
Remove from the skillet and serve warm. This bread is delicious on its own but can be paired with butter, cheese, or jam.
Tips
Use Soft Butter: Softened butter helps to create flaky layers in the bread, so don’t skip this step.
Serve Warm: This bread tastes best when served fresh and warm.
Add Toppings: For extra flavor, sprinkle sesame seeds or herbs on top before cooking.
